Keep grit off the floor.  Dirt and dust can act like sandpaper on your hardwoods, and subtly scratch and dull your hardwood finish.  Dust mop or sweep your floors once a week. When spills happen, immediately clean them, and tracked-on dirt, with a clean, soft cloth.  After wiping the spill away, dry the area with a dry cloth.  Never allow a wet area to stand.
